Catching up

Today in my postbox, the cute catalogue of the exhibition "Dialogue" in which I participate in Turku, Finland, Septembre 8-30, 2010, at Galleri Campus.

Aujourd´hui dans ma boite aux lettres, le catalogue de l´exposition Dialogue à laquelle de je participe à Turku en Finlande du 8 au 30 septembre 2010, à la Galleri Campus.

Et puis un article paru dans Fashion Daily avec l´une de mes créations mises en avant que l´Atelier a eu la gentillesse de m´envoyer.

The article was echoing the exhibition "Wools of Europe", which hilghlighted one hundred European sheep breeds. The exhibition is now in Italy at Biella and will be moving to London for the "Wool week" initiated by Prince Charles October 11-18, 210. The catalgue of the exhibition is published with photos and texts, linking breeders and processors. It is a tool for the coordination and the identification of teh Europen wool sector as well as a common wool promotion.

Cet article faisait écho à l´exposition "Laines d´Europe" à Rambouillet. L´exposition est en ce moment en Italie Biella, puis sera montré à Londres du 11 au 18 octobre lors de la "Wool Week" (Semaine de la Laine) initiée par le Prince Charles. Le catalogue de l´exposition est une référence indispensable et un outil utile avec une centaine d´espèces de moutons européens répertoriés, des photos et des textes et des liens très utiles aux éleveurs, producteurs et créateurs.

Last stop in June for the blog tours for my knitting book at Laine-et-tricot. She also sell Icelandic wool in her LYS and online shop shop, along with Malabrigo, Jamieson and Smith, Lorna, Fyberspates, Manos de Uruguay, and so much more. There is also a workshop on Icelandic intarsia planned October 9, 2010 in the Nantes area.

Et puis la dernière étape du mois de juin du tour des blogs est chez Laine-et-tricot. Avec un atelier de jacquard islandais prévu le 9 octobre dans la région de Nantes. Vous pouvez vous inscire dès maintenant mais je vous en reparlerai bien sûr cet automne.

Bazaar and Winter brooches

This week-end, I will be at the International Bazaar in Luxembourg, Exhibition and Congress Center, Kirchberg. Join me there at the Icelandic stand with my knitting book, in Icelandic, English and French, my designs, scarves, felted lights. Percent of the sales runs to a charity. I will show Icelandic intarsia knitting and introduce one of my latest designs: the winter brooches. Samples are already making their way to the National Museum of Iceland´s shop.

Ce week-end , je serai au Bazaar International du Luxembourg, au parc des expositions de Kirchberg. Retrouvez-moi sur le stand islandais avec mon livre de tricot en islandais, anglais ET français, et mes créations, écharpes, guirlandes lumineuses en feutre. Un pourcentage des ventes va à des organisations philantropiques. Je ferai une démonstratin de tricot jacquard islandais. Ce sera aussi l´occasion de vous présenter l´un de mes dernières créations: les broches d´hiver. Plusieurs sont déjà en route pour la boutique du Musée National d´Islande.

Finally pictures from the exhibition...the opening with dried fish, smoked lamb and trout smoked with dried lamb shit ! Everybody liked it! ... the workshops ... the beautiful setting of Rieux-Minervois...

Finalement les photos de l´expo-vente...le vernissage avec poisson séché, mouton fumé et truite saumonné fumée à la crotte de mouton séchée ! Tout le monde a aimé !...les ateliers...la belle église de Rieux-Minervois...

Finally I found some time to fill up my shop with some scarves. I will list more in the next following days and weeks. I desesperatly need a model ! Anyone interrested ?

Finalement, j´ai trouvé du temps pour mettre quelques écharpes dans ma boutique. Plus de choix dans les jours et semaines à venir. J´ai besoin d´un modèle ! Une volontaire ?

Craft market

The annual Craft market in Hrafnagil, north Iceland, will open next Friday, 7th of Agust unt il the 10th, from 12 til19 PM.

Le Marché artisanal annuel de Hrafnagil, au Nord de l´Islande, ouvrira vendredi prochain, du 7 au 10 août de 12 à 19 heures.

I´ll have a few scarves with Icelandic roses for sale in the Krambúð shop.

Week-end in London

Week-end à Londres

We had a lovely week-end in London, visiting some friends. High peek was, at least for me, the visit of the famous I Knit London, a shop and sanctuary for knitters and the only yarn shop that also sells beer !

Nous avons passé un excellent week-end à Londres chez des amis. Le plus mémorable reste la visite du fameux I Knit London, boutique et sanctuaire pour tricoteurs, le seul magasin de laine qui sert aussi de la bière !

Drinking tea and chatting with the happy owners, Gerard and Craig, about...  knitting of course ! And also about yarns, knitting books, patterns, the I knit weekender event with, among others, Alice Starmore in September, the top-to-be-published on Knitonthenet I´m hiding, lovely Ruby, etc... 

Boire du thé et papoter avec les heureux propriétaires, Gerard et Craig, de... tricot bien sûr ! Et aussi de fils à tricoter , de livres de tricots, de motifs, du I knit weekender, deux jours dédiés au tricot en Septembre avec entre autres Alice Starmore, du petit-haut-que-je-cache-tant-bien-que-mal à publier dans Knitonthenet , de la délicieuse Ruby, etc...

The shop has an incredible choice of fabulous yarns and a just as impressive choice of knitting books, among them Gerard ´s book, Knits to share and care.  And Icelandic Knitting using Rose-patterns, of course :-)  

La boutique est incroyablement bien achalandée avec des laines fabuleuses, et un choix de livres de tricot impressionnant, parmi eux le livre de Gerard, Knits to share and care. Et puis bien sûr mon livre, Le tricot jacquard islandais ou le renouveau de la semelle tricotée islandaise :-)

George, the great British sheep watching over its lamb, so cute... George celebrates UK sheep, wool and handknittng.

Le mouton anglais George le magnifique et son petit, trop mignon... George soutient les moutons britanniques, leur laine et le tricot.

Gerard was so kind to give me a Sushi sock roll. A what ? A sushi Sock Roll from Easy Knits. That is such a great and exciting concept. You get to knit socks from a flat sheet that was machine knitted then handpainted. The result is exquisite, with subtle, gradual colour change. The Easy Knits Sushi Sock Roll comes in several colourways. Coincidence or faith, I got Venus as a boy after Icelandic singer  Björk... You´ll get to hear again about that Sushi Roll on this blog... 

Gerard était bien gentil de me faire un cadeau : un rouleau de Sushi chaussette. Un quoi ? Un rouleau de chaussettes Sushi de Easy Knits. C´est un concept aussi nouveau qu´excitant. On tricote ses chaussettes à partir d´un morceau de tricot tricoté à la machine puis peint à la main. Le résultat est exquis, avec des dégradés subtiles de couleurs. Les Rouleaux Sushi de chaussettes Easy Knits existent dans plein de coloris. Le mien s´appelle  Venus as a boy d´après une chanson de l´islandaise Björk... Vous entendrez encore parler de sushi sur ce blog...

Gerard recommanded that we go to Tate Modern because the children (and their parents) could play with Robert Morris´s bodyspacemotionthings. That happened to be such a great idea, also because the girls had the time of their life at the House of the Fairy Tales, outside the Museum. Thanks Gerard !

Gerard nous avait conseillé d´aller au Tate Modern où les enfants (et leurs parents) pouvaient jouer avec les oeuvres de Robert Morris. C´était une excellente idée, aussi parce que la Maison des Contes de Fées s´était installée dans les jardins du Musée. Merci Gerard !

The last day we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Unfortunately the Textile collection had closed that afternoon but there was a nice exhibition on Fashion with magnificient garments from the Museum. I spotted a few knitted garments by young designers.

From Siri Johansen, a jumper with handknitted sleeves and a machine knitted torso, with magnified 2-D image of a familiar cable pattern; an Icelandic (again !) dot dash pattern reduced on a oversized jumper and enlarged on the cape worn on top;  a knitted coat imitating traditional woven herringbone tweed. For those interested, I found better pictures here.

From Pamela Leung, a oversized dress knitted on big needles with triple Rowan Big Wool and silver painted onto the giant cables. Again, better pictures here. 

Le dernier jour, nous sommes allés au Musée Victoria and Albert. Malheureusement la section textile avait fermée cet après-midi-là mais il y avait uen belle exposition de mode avec de magnifiques pièces du Musée. J´ai repéré quelques tricots de jeunes créateurs.

Par Siri Johansen, un pull avec des manches tricotées à la main et le torse tricoté à la machine imitant en deux dimensions un motif familier de torsade; un motif islandais (encore !), répété tout petit sur un pull géant et au contraire magnifié sur la cape portée au-dessus; un pull tricoté machine imitant les chevrons du tweed. Pour ceux que ça intéresse, j´ai trouvé de meilleures photos ici.
