The Icelandic crowns are back at the National Museum. There are only four now. I sew a circle of plexiglass and added a hook on the back so that they can hang on the wall. So, how much worth are they, now ?

Les couronnes islandaises sont de nouveau au Musée national. Elles ne sont plus que quatre. J´ai cousu un cercle de plexiglass au dos avec un crochet pour les pendre au mur. Alors, que valent-elles maintenant?

You remember I had knitted an Icelandic Crown (see previous post). In whatfollowed, the shop Herðubreið contacted me and the Crown set for sale in the shop, Barónsstígur 27 in Reykjavík. I decided to make no more than 5 one-of-the-kind pieces, numbered 1 til 5, all in different colors. Here are the first ones. I have a pink one on my needles. Vous vous souvenez que j´avais tricoté une couronne islandaise (voir note précédente). Par la suite, la boutique Herðubreið m´a contactée et la couronne est désormais à la vente dans leur boutique, Barónsstígur 27 à Reykjavík. J´ai décidé de ne pas tricoter plus de 5 couronnes, numérotées de 1 à 5, dans des couleurs différentes. Voici les premières. J´en ai une rose sur mes aiguilles. How much worth is one Icelandic Crown ?

Que vaut une couronne islandaise ?

First, I had the idea. Then I had to find the yarn. I chose a superfine merino pure wool that enhances the knit and purl motif. I knitted a gauge. It took four hours to make the chart, adjust the graph to the gauge, translate the motif into squares, draw the circle, adapt it to ease the knitting. It took six hours for me to knit and block. Then, I took pictures, wrote the text in English, French and Icelandic and edited to the web.

D´abord, j´ai eu l´idée. Ensuite, j´ai cherché la laine appropriée et choisi une pure laine merino ultrafine permettant au motif en mailles envers de bien ressortir. J´ai alors tricoté une gauge. Il m´a fallu quatre heures de travail graphique pour faire la grille, appliquer la gauge à la grille, reproduire le motif, dessiner le cercle, faire les adapations nécessaires pour faciliter le tricotage. Ce dernier m´a demandé six heures de travail, blocage compris. Enfin, j´ai pris des photographies, écrit le texte en anglais, français et islandais et édité le tout sur mon site.

I´m working with Photoshop (Illustrator would be more appropriate but I don´t have it...). For my knitting book, I had drawn a grind made of little squares which I fill with colors. I used the same grind but flattened it to match the gauge. I draw the crown using layers and playing with opacity to see through. I thought it was easier to drw the fish in negative. Most difficult was to draw the circle. I had to take into account that augmentations/diminutions couldn´t at the end and the beginnig of each row, rather every other row.

Je travaille sur Photoshop (Illustrator serait plus approprié, mais je ne l´ai pas...). Pour mon livre de tricot, je m´étais dessiné une grille faite de petits carrés que je remplissais de couleurs. J´ai utilisé la même grille mais aplatie pour correspondre à la gauge. J´ai dessiné la couronne en utilisant les calques (layers) et en jouant sur l´opacité pour voir en transparence. J´ai trouvé le poisson plus facile à travailler en négatif. Le cercle était la partie la plus difficile. J´ai pris en compte le fait que les augmentations/diminutions au début et à la fin de chaque rang sont faites non tous les rangs mais tous les deux rangs.
