Il est rentré ! It returned!

Retour d´Islande est sorti! Les illustrations sont magnifiques: je vous laisse admirer le beau travail d´illustration de Charline. Knitting and Crochet Blog week - Day 5: where

Where do you like to indulge in your craft? Is your favourite arm chair your little knitting cubby area, or do you prefer to ‘knit in public’? Do you like to crochet in the great outdoors, perhaps, or knit in the bath, or at the pub?

This one is easy: everywhere and anywhere. De facto, in the sofa in the evening, at the play-ground with the girls in the afternoon when the weather is good. Travelling, in the plane, the train, the car or the bus. Anywhere where you have to wait more than 5 mn (doctors, moovie ads, airports lines, etc...)

Où t-adonnes-tu à ton loisir? Ton fauteuil préféré est-il ta petite zone de tricot ou préfères-tu tricoter en public? Aimes-tu crocheter à l´extérieur, peut-être, ou tricoter dans ton bain ou au pub?

Là c´est facile: partout et n´importe où. De facto, dans le canapé le soir, au parc avec les filles s´il fait beau, en voyage (que ce, soit en train, en voiture, en avion ou en bus). Partout où il faut attendre plus de 5 mn (docteur, pubs au cinéma, files d´attente, etc...)

Semaine Tricot et Crochet - Jour 3: Ecris au sujet d'un tricoteur / d'une tricoteuse dont le travail (que ce soit pour le choix d'un projet, d'une photo, du style, de la gamme de projets, du stock de laine...) t'enthousiasme. S'il / elle a un blog agréable, tu pourras trouver là une bonne opportunité de lui envoyer un sourire.

This is a really tough question. There are son many great knitters whose work I find inspiring. Solveig Hisdal and her book Poetry in stitches is among my favourite. I have it in Icelandic, called "Ljóð í lykkjum". I also enjoy to see how her designs are being adapted between craft and industry and how her handknit collection relates to the machine knit collection, "fair made" in the Norwegian Oleana factory.

C´est vraiment une question difficile. Il y a tellement de créatrices (plus que de créateurs d´ailleurs...) dont le travail m´inspire. Parmi mes favoris, Solveig Hisdal et son livre Poetry in stitches (Poésie en mailles). Je l´ai en islandais, "Ljóð í lykkjum". J´aime comme ses créations sont adaptées selon qu´elles sont produites artisanalement ou industriellement, et comment ses tricots faits à la main rejoignent ses collections faites à la machine, d´un façon éthique, dans l´une des rares usines encore implantée en Norvège, Oleana.

Eyjafjallajökull

On French TV, the other day, there was the most hilarious compilation on how the Icelandic eruptive glacier was pronounced by journalists. So I just try to give you a sens for it (but myEmglish pronounciation si not perfect either!)

Eyja, meaning island, is pronounced a bit like: ey hya

Fjalla, meaning mountain, is pronounced: fiat (like the car) and la

Jökull, meaning glacier, is pronounced: yeu (like yey without the ey but a instead like in amazing whitout the mazing: does it make sens?) ku and then a t following by a l at the end.

L´autre jour à la télé, il y avait une compilation très amusante sur la prononciation du fameux glacier islandais qui erupte. Voici dont une petite leçon d´islandais.

Eyja veut dire île et se prononce comme veille mais sans le v et avec un a à la fin

Fjalla veut dire montagne et se prononce comme : fiat (comme les voitures) et la

Jökull veut dire glacier et se prononce comme : yeux et puis cutle (comme culte mais en inversant le t et le l: ça fait claquer la langue)

Knitting and Crochet Blog week, day 2 : Blog about a pattern or project which you aspire to. Whether it happens to be because the skills needed are ones which you have not yet acquired, or just because it seems like a huge undertaking of time and dedication, most people feel they still have something to aspire to in their craft. If you don’t feel like you have any left of the mountain of learning yet to climb, say so!

I´m currently compiling documents for on a new book project, about a wonderful knitter, Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir, 93 years old today, who was making the most amazing lace dresses ever and who is herself an amazing woman. See my previous post. Among all the dresses, one I find especially challenging, is a wonderful dress knitted all in the biais, with change of needles sizes giving it its flared shape.

Knitting and Crochet Blog week, jour 2: Rédige un article sur un modèle ou un projet qui t´inspire. QWye ce soit parce que tu n´as pas les compétences requises pour le réaliser ou just parce qu´il semble nécessiter beaucoup de temps et de dévouement, la plupart des gens érpouvent le besoin de se mettre à l´épreuve. Si tu trouves que tu n´as plus rien à apprendre dis-le !

Je travaille en ce moment à compiler des informations pour un nouveau livre sur la fascinante Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir, 93 ans aujourd´hui, qui tricotait des robes merveilleuses en dentelle de tricot. Voyez mon article précédent. Parmi les robes que j´ai pu admirer, l´une me semble particulirement insurmontable à mettre sur papier, toute tricotée dans le biais, avec différentes tailles d´aiguilles lui donnant sa forme évasée.
