Olivia se prépare pour son voyage à Paris où elle assiste au Salon de la poupée noire samedi 3 décembre à la Bellevilloise, 19-21 rue Boyer, de 10 à 18h, M° Gambetta.

Olivia is preparing for her trip to Paris where she's participating at the Black dolls festival on Saturday 3rdn décember at la Bellevilloise, 19-21 rue Boyer, from 10AM to 18PM, M° Gambetta.

This website is talking about the history and importance of black dolls: it's in French but there are some nice examples of dolls.

J'y aurais des kits de la poupée Olivia mais aussi poupées toutes tricotées. Ce que je préfère, c'est broder leurs yeux et leur bouche et leur donner ainsi leur personnalité. Toutes les poupées que vous faites sont ainsi toutes différentes avec des caractères parfois bien trempés, comme vous pouvez voir sur le blog Bon voyage Theodora! Un fois n'est pas coutume, non pas tricot mais couture pour habiller ces demoiselles, avec des chutes de tissus, des bouts de tee-shirt. 

I will have kits of the doll Olivia but also ready knitted dollsWhat I like best is to sew on their eyes and mouth, it gives them a unique personality and they are all different. All the dolls you make have their very own personality as you can see also on the blog Bon voyage Theodora ! No knitting for once but sewing to dress up a bit those misses; with all sorts of fabrics including old tee-shirts.

Sur les blogs on trouve déjà beaucoup d'adorables petites Theodora et vous m'avez souvent envoyé des photos toutes mignonnes que j'aimerais tant pouvoir partager... C'est lors du voyage Tricoter au Nord de l'Islande que l'idée a surgi... La Theodora de Cécile était du voyage bien contente de "retrouver" son pays natal!

Lost and not found...

Perdu et pas retrouvé...

Theodora's little tasseled cap is lost, again! .... so I'm knitted it, again: that would be the third time! I'm having a hard time with three little girls around keeping some knitting samples in place...:-)

Le petit bonnet à queue de Theodora est encore perdu! ... alors je le retricote, pour la troisième fois! Il faut dire qu'avec mes trois minettes c'est difficile de conserver certains de mes échantillons tranquilles...

Petite leçon: montage en boucle

Tutorial: disappearing loop cast-on

Le montage en boucle permet de commencer un tricot circulaire au milieu.

With a disappearing loop cast on, you can start a circular piece of knitting in the middle.

Faites une large boucle.

Make a large loop.

Maintenez fermement la boucle entre le pouce et l'index de votre main droite en même temps qu'une aiguille à doubles pointes (aiguille à chaussette par exemple).

Hold the loop firmly between the thumb and the index finger of your right hand, together with a double pointed needle.

Insérez votre pouce gauche dans la boucle et maintenez les fils bien tendus.

Insert your left thumb in the loop and hold the yarn tight.

Insérez la pointe de l'aiguille dans la boucle...

Insert the tip of the needle inside the loop...

... en-dessous de tous les fils...

...all the way under the strands...

... et ramener une boucle au travers de la grande boucle (celle que vous maintenez avec votre pouce) = la première maille.

... and bring back a loop throught the large loop (the one you hold with your thumb)= the first stitch.

Faites une seconde "maille" en faisant un jeté.

Make a second "stitch" by making a yarn over.

Détail: ça ne ressemble pas vraiment à une maille. Maintenez bien les "mailles" entre vos doigts.

Close-up: it doesn't really look like a stitch. Hold the "stitches" well between your fingers.

Faites la 3ème maille comme la première, en insérant la pointe de l'aiguille dans la grande boucle et en ramenant une boucle.

Make the third like the first one, inserting the tip of the needle inside the large loop and bringing back the loop.

Faites la quatrième maille en faisant un jeté, et ainsi de suite, jusqu'à ce que vous ayiez le nombre requis de mailles. Quelques unes suffisent: ici, 6 mailles. Regardez comme le dernier jeté ressemble à peine à une maille.

Make the fourth stitch by making a yarn over and so on, until you have the required number of stitches. Just a few for the best results: here, 6 stitches. Look how the last yarn over barely looks like a stitch.

Ici, d'autres vous diront de répartir les mailles sur les aiguilles à chaussettes pour tricoter le 1er rang en rond...et papatras, toutes les aiguilles tombent. Voici ma petite touche personnelle qui rend tout cela bien plus facile: en les maintenant bien entre vos doigts, glissez les 6 "mailles" sur la droite de l'aiguille...

Here, you are usually told to even your stitches on double poointed needles adn knit the first round... and usually all the needles are falling out... Here is my little trick to avoid it: holding them tight between your fingers, slide the 6 "stitches" to the right side of the needle...

... laissez le fil flotter derrière comme si vous alliez tricoter une cordelette et...

... leave the strand floating at the back of your work as if you were going to knit an I-cord and...

... tricoter les mailles.

... knit the stitches.
La dernière maille (le jeté) ressemble à ça.

This is what the last stitch (the yarn over) looks like.

Mettez les mailles sur trois aiguilles et tricotez en rond votre deuxième tour. Bien sûr vous pourriez faire tout cela en utilisant depuis le début une aiguille circulaire et, à ce point là, la technique de la boucle magique (l'objet d'une prochaine petite leçon -, promis!).

Arrange your stitches on three needles and knit your second row.

Of course you could do all that from the beginning using a circular needle and, at this point, the Magic Loop technique.

Dans ce second tour, on vous demandera le plus souvent de faire des augmentations pour garder le tricot plat.

In this second round, you will usually make increases to make a flat piece of knitting.

Les mains de ma poupée Theodora sont commencées de cette façon. Bien sûr, on pourrait aussi monter les mailles normalement et passer un fil dedans pour fermer mais avouez que c'est plus joli et plus propre comme ça!
