Icelandic lace shawls usually display some very simple motif in the body. A very popular one is the so called Spider lace stitch pattern., sometimes referred to as a Lattice lace pattern. "Þríhyrnur og langsjöl" - Three-cornered and long shawls-, the book and reference on Icelandic lace shawls, after Sigríður Halldórsdóttir -, you will find upp to 9 shawls using this motif!

Les châles de dentelle islandais utilisent des motis très simples. Le plus populaire est probablement le motif "araignée". Dans le livre "Þríhyrnur og langsjöl" - Triangles et long châles -, la référence en matière de châles islandais par Sigríður Halldórsdóttir, vous trouverez 9 châles utilisant ce motif!

The two traditional shawls published on The Icelandic Knitter are no exception: the Spider motif is worked as an allover pattern in the Modern Icelandic Shawl whereas it displays broken lines in the Icelandic Spring Shawl.

Icelandic shawls often had a very lacy border, probably inspired by doilies. The Spring shawl keeps it extremely simple and easy but no less effective.

Les châles islandais ont souvent une bordure en dentelle plus élaborée, probablement inspirée des napperons. Celle du Châle de printemps est d'une simplicité extrème mais non moins effective.

The use of colors is probably the most obvious characteristics of Icelandic lace shawls: it allowed to show off all the beautiful colors and the gradations both in the natural colors of the sheep and in the dyed Icelandic wool. Undulating motifs are also a favorite to show off the colors better. 

L'utilisation des couleurs est probablement la caractéristique la plus évidente des châles islandais: c'est qu'il s'agit de tirer parti des dégradés dans les couleurs naturelles extrêmement variées des moutons, et aussi les laines teintes. Les motifs ondulatoires sont ainsi très populaires aussi pour les mettre en valeur. 

Many Icelandic shawls are shaped in a way that they curve. The Spring shawl however is exaggerating the curve quite a lot and will not just sit right but go all around the shoulders.

Beaucoup de châles islandais ont une forme un peu incurvée afin de tenir bien sur les épaules. Le Châle de printemps exagère cette courbe et enroule les épaules plus qu'il ne s'y tient simplement.

Froufrouetcapucine is one of the participants in the Hiking and knitting between Fire and Ice that is taking us where the first eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull started. Isn't it the perfect transition to tell you about the Eyjafjallajökull lace shawl and the Ravelry KAL with members of the knitting tour? In August, we'll take pictures of the shawls on the spot for sure! The tour itself is fully booked but don't worry it will be scheduled again for 2012 around the same dates :-) And of course, you don't have to be on the trip to participate in the KAL: anyone is welcome to knit with us! 

Froufrouetcapucine est l'une des participantes du Tricot treck entre Feu et glace qui passe sur les lieux de la toute première éruption du glacier au nom imprononçable: l'Eyjafjallajökull. Une transition parfaite, n'est-ce pas, pour vous parler du châle circulaire en dentelle Eyjafjallajökull  et du KAL (tricotons ensemble) sur Ravelry avec des membres du voyage de tricot. Nous prendrons des photos des châles finis sur place bien sûr! Le voyage lui-même est complet mais pas de soucis, il sera reproposé en 2012 vers les mêmes dates :-) Et bien sûr, même si vous ne faites pas partie du voyage, vous êtes les bienvenus à venir tricoter avec nous l'Eyjafjallajökull!

Tirage au sort de printemps: on recommence!

Avec deux brouillons, deux dates de tirage au sort différentes - vendredi 8 et 13 mai -, un blog qui var directement sur Facebook et un léger surmenage, le tirage au sort du Numéro de Printemps, c'est un gros bazar et je suis désolée pour celles qui attendaient impatiemment hier le 13.... et qui heureusement m'ont prévenu aujourd'hui! Donc on prend les mêmes et on recommence, je tirerais à nouveau au sort parmi celles qui ont déjà laissé un commentaire et celles (cela peut être les mêmes) qui laisseront un commentaire sur ce poste - : le principe reste le même,  dites-moi quel est votre modèle préféré du Magasine 03 de Printemps et pourquoi. Courrier d'Islande

Le Courier d'Islande (The Iceland Express) is a magazine published by the "association France-Islande "(France-Iceland association). You will find there really interesting articles about Iceland, for example on the Icelandic tolkien, just have a look at the editorial. See there is even some knitting! It's an article I wrote about the Icelandic knitting tradition (also published in Issue 01 of the Icelandic Knitter).

Le Courier d'Islande est une publication de l'Association France-Islande. Vous y trouverez des articles intéressants sur l'Islande,  par exemple sur le tolkien islandais, voyez plutôt l'éditorial. Il y a même du tricot! Un article de moi sur le tricot traditionnel islandais (qui reprend l'article publié dans Tricoteuse d'Islande - magazine 01).
