Grrr email

I happened to know about four persons  that send me an email lately but I never answered...because I never received it ! I wonder how many others have gone the same path... If it is your case, please send it again or let me know by leaving a comment.

The worst "photo studio" ever

Mon "studio" photo : on ne fait guère pire...

Isn´t it the worst photo "studio" ever ? But at least, I finally  managed to put two scarves in my Etsy shop. I will be listing more over the next days (and try to get a model...).

Avez-vous jamais vu pire "studio" photo ? Mais au moins, j´ai enfin pu mettre deux écharpes dans ma boutique Etsy. J´en mettrai d´autres dans les jours à venir (et essaierai de trouver un modèle...).

Perfect match

Here are two scarves for Ada : one for her newborn little sister and one for her doll. My Henrietta is modelling with her doll and she would VERY much like to have the same scarf for her own doll... The pattern (Vintage scarf with Icelandic roses) is free (Ravelry download or send me an email or leave me a comment) . I simply divided all the measurements by two to get a doll size (starting by catsing on 3 sts to get an odd number).

Voici deux écharpes pour Ada : l´une pour sa petite soeur tout juste née, l´autre pour sa poupée. C´est mon Henrietta qui pose sur la photo mais elle aimerait BEAUCOUP que je tricote la même écharpe pour sa poupée à elle... Le modèle (Echarpe rétro avec des roses islandaises) est gratuit (téléchargement sur Ravelry ou envoyez-moi un email ou encore laissez un commentaire).  J´ai simplement divisé toutes les mesures en deux pour l´écharpe de poupée (en commençant par monter 3 m. pour obtenir un chiffre impair).

The sweater is inspired by old Icelandic shoe-inserts decorated with a Flowerpot motif. Flowerpots are a very common motif but the way it is stylised on Icelandic inserts is a little bit unusual. The Flowerpot determines the shape the garment takes. I must admit it drove me a little crazy to achieve this result. My first prototype had a bigger (with more normal proportions) waist than the one on the chart, leading to a rather baggy look. I had to reduce it considerably to achieve the slim fit effect that makes the sweater work. I know the waist on the chart is so tiny, it is almost scary... The arms were also a problem. I think I knitted them 4 times, with all sorts of decreases, ending up with the most simple shape : straight. But it made the difference. By the way, for the sweater to look good, you´d better have a flat stomach (and a not so flat chest !) Having had 3 children in 5 years, I still have some work to do on my abs !

Le pull est inspiré par de vieilles semelles islandaises tricotées avec un motif de pot de fleurs. Les pots de fleurs sont un motif très répandu mais la façon dont il sont stylisés sur les semelles islandaises est inhabituel. C´est le pot de fleurs qui détermine la forme du pull. Je dois admettre que je me suis un peu arracher les cheveux pour arriver à ce résultat. Mon premier prototype avait une taille plus grande (normalement proportionnée disons) et le pull paraissait sans formes. J´ai dû considérablement réduire la taille pour rendre le pull moulant (c´est du point mousse) et lui donner ainsi son cachet. Je me rends bien compte que sur la charte graphique, la taille est si petite qu´elle fait presque peur... Les bras m´ont aussi posé un problème : je les ai tricoté probablement 4 fois avec toutes sortes de diminutions, pour finir le plus simplement du monde : les tricoter tout droit. Au fait, pour que le pull fasse son effet, mieux voit avoir le ventre plat (et la poitrine pas tant que ça...). Moi, avec 3 enfants en 5 ans, j´ai encore quelques abdominaux à travailler...

Thea, today 6 years old, finished her very first project, a scarf she started in June 2007. Rosa (or Violet, it depends) is modelling under the (springful) rain. 

Théa, aujourd´hui âgée de 6 ans, a fini son tout premier projet, une écharpe commencée en juin 2007. C´est Rosa (ou Violette, ça dépend des jours) qui prend la pose sous la pluie (printannière).

Ravelry and I

Ravelry et moi 

I just joined Ravelry and have now just started to upload patterns on it. But honestly I should have done this a loooooooooooooooong time ago ! Yeah, that long !

Finalement je me suis inscrite sur Ravelry et j´ai tout juste commencé y mettre mes modèles de tricot, mais honnêtement, j´aurais dû m´y mettre il y a trèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèès longtemps ! Voui, tant que ça !

Joyeuses Pâques !

Spring is coming, so is Eastern and I´m putting myself in the mood : delicate pastel pink, powdered white, bright yellow. Plus a touch of tender green. Check them out in my shop (click on the right).

For her fourth birthday, my oldest daughter, Sylvía, wanted a pink sweater (how strange...). I picked up three pink inserts from my collection of pictures (pictures of knitted inserts taken in the Museums of Iceland), translated the patterns into graphs, and then Sylvía helped me arranging and combining the patterns together. I kept the Icelandic intarsia (intarsia in garter stitch) in the borders but I allowed myself to knit main pattern in the round in Fair-Isle and stocking stitch to have the sweater lighter (and easier to knit !). Sylvía absolutly wanted a zip and I added a little matching cap she´s been wearing quite a lot (until it apses on to younger sisters).Instructions here.

Pour ses quatre ans, ma plus grande fille, Sylvía, voulait absolument un pull rose (bizarre à cet âge là...). J´ai choisi 3 semelles tricotées de ma collection (photographies prises dans les musées d´Islande), transcrit graphiquement les motifs et c´est Sylvía qui m´a aidée à assembler les motifs ensemble. J´ai utilisé la technique du jacquard islandais (jacquard intarsia au point mousse) pour les bords, mais je me suis permise quelques écarts et ai tricoté le corps du pull en rond en jersey jacquard à fils flottants pour le rendre plus léger (et plus facile à réaliser !). Sylvía voulait absolument une fermeture éclair et j´ai ajouté un petit bonnet qu´elle a d´ ailleurs beaucoup porté (puis ses jeunes soeurs à leur tour).Instructions ici.
