I won't start sewing my costume before next autumn, but I already started collecting fabrics for it. Knowing me, you can bet some knitting yarn will also be needed! I'm upcycling old coupons from Olga grand-mother for the apron and the bodice: it's pure wool but I have no idea where it comes from! For the skirt, I bought a beautiful wool gabardine in Marché Saint Pierre last time I was in Paris: the skirt is very wide and I needed three times the length of it! And finally, in a thriftstore in Iceland, I found an old upphlutur all teared apart with silver and golden embroidery I can reuse.

Je ne vais pas commencer à coudre mon costume avant l'automne prochain mais j'ai déjà commencer à rassembler les tissus. Me connaissant, vous pouvez être sûrs que j'aurai aussi besoin de laine à tricoter! Deux vieux coupons de grand-mère Olga serviront pour le tablier et le corset: en pure laine mais je ne sais pas du tout d'où il vient!  Pour la jupe, j'ai acheté une magnifique gabardine de laine au Marché Saint Pierre la dernière fois que j'étais à Paris: l'ampleur de la jupe demande un métrage de 3 fois sa longueur! Et puis dans une brocante en Islande, j'ai trouvé un vieux upphlutur tout déchiré avec des broderies d'or et des pièces argentées que je peux réutiliser.

I started a long term project: sew myself a traditional Icelandic costume, a "upphlutur" and "peysuföt" from the 18th century. First step this autumn: I followed a baldýring workshop or golden embroidery. I drew the motif for my costume and prepared for the embroidery itself.

J'ai entrepris un projet de longue haleine: me faire un costume traditionnel islandais, un "upphlutur" et "peysuföt" du 18ème siècle. Premiers pas cet automne lorsque j'ai donc appris le baldýring ou la broderie d'or. J'ai aussi dessiné le dessin de mon costume et préparé le travail de broderie à proprement parler.
