My book, pattern # 1

Modèle # 1 de mon livre

First pattern from my knitting book was also the first I knitted. It is inspired by the motif of a Hammer rose as seen on a pair of inserts in shoes preserved at the National Museum of Iceland. I love this motif and its versatility. I love it so much I made it sort of my trademark. I used it first printed on fabrics for my graduate collection(Iceland Academy of the Arts 2005), and on paper on my business cards and ever since it has been prising my webites, such as the banner above or the avatar I use. It has a very modern aesthetic, but yet, a very strong feeling for Iceland.

Le 1er modèle de mon livre de tricot est aussi le 1er que j´ai créé. Il est inspiré d´un motif de "Rose marteau" décorant une paire de semelles tricotées préservée au Musée National d´Islande. J´aime beaucoup ce motif et sa versatilité. Je l´aime tellement que je l´ai fait mien. Je l´ai utilisé imprimé sur textile pour ma collection de fin d´année (Académie des Arts d´Islande en 2005) et sur mes cartes de visites et il fait depuis partie de mon image, comme la banière ci-dessus ou l´avatar que j´utilise. Je lui trouve une esthétique très moderne, avec en même temps un sens très prononcé pour la tradition islandaise.

When I designed the vest, I was still working on my graduate collection. Time was unfortunately too short to make it part of the collection but it certainly fits into it. It is worked with fine Icelandic lace yarn on rather big needles (4,5 mm, US 7), wich makes it very airy and light, yet warm. Main concern was to have the pattern run around the body. That was quite a challenge when havig multiple sizes. I could somehow make the black square of the pattern more elongated but it wouldn´t be enough for a third size. I solved the problem with a very disputable trick : using slightly bigger needles... My sister-in-law is modelling. Instructions here.

Lorsque j´ai créé le modèle, je travaillais sur ma collection de fin d´année. Je n´avais pas suffisamment de temps pour l´intégrer à la collection (le tricoter) mais il en est certainement inspiré. Il est tricoté en laine islandaise fine (utilisée pour le tricot dentelle) sur des aiguilles relativement grosses (4,5 mm), ce qui le rend très aérien et léger, tout en restant chaud. Mon principal souci était que le motif fasse le tour du corps sans interruption. Difficile quand il y a plusieurs tailles. Si le carré noir du motif pouvait être étiré sans que cela se voit, cela n´était pas suffisant pour la 3ème taille. J´ai résolu le problème d´une manière tout à fait contestable : en utilisant des aiguilles un tout petit peu plus grosses... C´est la soeur de mon mari qui pose. Les instructions sont ici.
