Sólblóm et une confession à faire

As much as I love Icelandic wool and wear it directly on the skin, I can't stand it on my forehead! Fortunately there are many lovely yarns out there and I must say that Heirloom from Fancy Tigers Crafts stole my heart... Isn't that yellow Mullein absolutely gorgeous? It's an American Romney yarn, naturally grey, that dyes beautifully, and the same weight as Álafoss lopi. So here is my new tam that mixes the two together and calls for spring and sun! I loved to knit the two together and rediscovered how knitting with lopi compared to a plied yarn is a bit like knitting with a cloud!
The stranded motif is very common in the mittens known in Iceland as Nordic mittens: it's a little pattern often use inside the hand to fill up the space and carry the yarn all around.
You will have already guessed that Sólblóm means sunflower in Icelandic! It surely brought sun to Reykjavík!

Autant j'adore la laine islandaise et la porte à même la peau, autant je ne la supporte pas du tout sur le front! Heureusement, on peut trouver des laines équivalentes et je dois dire que j'ai eu le coup de foudre pour Heirloom de Fancy Tigers Crafts... C'est un fil américain Romney, un mouton naturellement gris qui donne des couleurs magnifiques une fois teinté et la même grosseur que Álafoss lopi. Et voici donc Sólblóm mon nouveau béret qui mélange allègrement les deux fils et appelle le printemps et le soleil! J'ai adoré tricoté les deux fils ensemble et redécouvert comment tricoter avec le lopi par rapport à un fil retors, c'est un peu de tricoter avec un nuage! 
Le motif en jacquard est très commun dans ce qu'on appelle en Islande les moufles nordiques, et aide à occuper l'espace dans la paume et surtout faire suivre les fils tout autour de la moufle.
 Vous l'aurez deviné, Sólblóm veut dire Fleur de Soleil en islandais (tournesol quoi!). Et elle a bien apporté le soleil à Reykjavík!
