Fimmvörðurháls cardigan

This week-end, I completed the cardigan version of my Fimmvörðurháls sweater with reindeer horns button and knitted with Cascade 220, so soft. As much as I LOVE Icelandic wool, it is TOO warm to wear in Iceland inside the TOO well-heated houses and apartments: incredible isn't it?
Since you were many to ask me for advices to turn the sweater into a cardigan, I updated the pattern with instructions for a cardigan, knitted in the round and steeked, or back and forth. Of course I sent an update to everyone who had bought the pattern already.

Details of the elbow shaped with short rows like the Old Icelandic costume jackets were, often to prevent holes forming. Practical in those centuries when you would wear your jacket everyday for years, you can skip it if you don't like the bulge it makes!

In the Icelandic press...

Dans la presse islandaise

My knitting tours and the Tourism Award I won were in the Icelandic press as well last week and this week-end: in the two main newspapers Fréttablaðið and Morgunblaðið, in Iceland Review and an interview with me in the News on radio Iceland (RÁS 2). All Iceland knows about it I guess: this is called "being famous in Iceland" (it's a bit of a local joke, not sure if you perceive the humor...).

There was an article about the Sonntag Aktuell Tourism Award 2013 in the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper (15.01.2013) followed by an interview with me. Once again I'm thankful to get so much attention with my hiking and knitting tours!

In the French press: "Il était un fil..."

This morning, I had the good surprise to get by courrier the latest issue of the French publication "Il était un fil..." ("Once upon a time was a thread...", Issue 12 at Editions du Saxe, a leading French publisher of Craft and Hobby magazines and books) and the even greatest surprise to discover in it a truly adorable article about my Hiking and knitting tour with the Elves at the end of June! Many, many thanks! And it was also very nice to read the article in it about Víksprjónsdóttir, my classmates from the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

In the British press: Yarnwise magazine

Dans la presse anglaise: Yarnwise magazine

Yarnwise is a knitting magazine I truly enjoy with an elegant layout, beautiful pictures and interesting articles. Issue 56 (January 2013) included an article about Knitting Holidays and I was thrilled to see my hiking and knitting tours in Iceland included - "Knitting on the wild side!" Cheerful thanks to Lou Butt for this inspiring article!

A week-end in... Stuttgart: Sonntag Aktuell Touristic Price Award

Un week-end à ... Stuttgart: Sonntag Aktuell Prix du tourisme 2013

This week-end I was in Stuttgart where I was awarded the annual Sonntag Aktuell Tourism Award 2013 for my Hiking and knitting tours in collaboration with Icelandic Mountain Guides. The Ceremony took place on Sunday evening during the biggest Fair in Europe dedicated to Travel and Tourism. It was the 16th year that this respectful and sought after Award was allocated by Sonntag Aktuell, Germany's 2nd largest Sunday newspaper.
Naively, I didn't really realize what a big deal this was before I had to make a presentation in front of the 250 VIP guests at the Ceremony Award followed by a buffet and music! Thanks god I had taken my high heels with me rather than my hiking boots! The price itself consists in a substantial grant to advertise the tours but is also a huge recognition and I'm very honored and thankful for it.
Read the press release 2013 here. More pictures of the Award Ceremony here. And more press to come: I'll keep posting!

Poscards from our New Year's Knitting tour

Cartes postales de notre Escapade du Nouvel An

This week-end was the first knitting tour of the year and it was most certainly the coziest tour of all... candle lights, traditional Xmas food, frozen waterfalls, woolly sheep, Old costumes, turf houses...we read the sagas while knitting our little lopi sweater and converted a man to knitting...
