Do mistake, redo

Oups, I got the wrong link on Katarina in my previous post! Thank you wrong Katarina hype knitting blogger to let me know!

Katarina Brieditis is also Swedish and a designer who uses a lot of different textile techniques in her work. Knitting has followed her through life and has resulted in several exhibitions and two books: Lust att Sticka (2000) and Do Redo the art of slaughtering a sweater (2004) (English edition: Second-time Cool – the art of chopping up a sweater, Annick press 2006), a book connected to the handicraft and recycle project Do Redo, that started in 2003 with four others. Do Redo stands for "do and remake" - use old traditional techniques in new ways, re-use material and do something new out of it. Do and do it again, never give up!

Nordic Knitting Conference

It sounds a little far away, but, in 2010, I was invited to take part in the Nordic Knitting Conference at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle. The museum is the only one in the US which includes all Nordic countries. The 2009 Conference will feature Katarina Brieditis, Marianne Isager, Nancy Bush, Evelyn Clark, and others. Evelyn Clark will be teaching a class on Icelandic lace inspired by pieces from the museum's collection. Her Bertha lace shawl is such a lace and named for Evelyn´s Icelandic aunt.

Birkiland pops up

On october 4th, Birkiland will open a "pop up" shop for just a week. Birkiland is an Icelandic eshop selling selective Icelandic design, among them my cutters and vinaigrette books. If you want to know more, visit their site, and if you happen to be in Reykjavík at the time, do join the opening party in Gallerý Verðandi at Laugavegi 61 (yes, that´s the adress).

Here is an illustration from my vinaigrette book, The secret of good vinaigrette revealed to Icelanders, where you will learn everything you always wanted to know about French dressing, a little about French moving to Icelnad and a lot weird about Iceland.

Casa D

When I opened my mail this morning, I found Casa D, an International Italian magazine on interior design and contemporary living behaviours. First I didn´t understand why, then I saw my rose-patterned cutters! Thanks Casa D for sending the magasine to me! There were also other great stuff to look at.

Pictures from I Knit London

Here is my display just before the opening

..and the crowd came in...

With Mary, Publicity Manager at Search Press Ltd, my British editor.

The famous picture of Gerard, myself and Craig, taken by Stephanie Pearl Mc Phee, Yarnharlot herself (after intensive photoshop, ´cause it came out completly dark... faith...).

Home, not sweet home...

Here I am back from London, exhausted and the house full of boxes. Couldn´t find my knitted needles, so I went off for Yarn Harlot´s advise and read her latest knitting book. I think I was the last to get a signed copy, probably around 8 PM. I really needed to smile and giggle. I also got a picture of myself and Craig and Gerard, "les gentils organisateurs" of the IKnitDay, taken by Stephanie herself, but, would you believe it or not, it didn´t occur to me before really late that night that it would have been damned nice to have a picture of the three of them too! And when I say nice, I also mean polite... As I say, I´m really tired (like it is an excuse)... the moving, the school starting, Henrietta quiting night diapers and having "accidents" around 4 AM... Thank you to all the people who listened to me and bought my book. To the "gentils organisateurs" for inviting me. I was very happy to meet with Mary, from Search Press Ltd, my British publisher. And meet with Ruby, editor of Knitonthenet, Marjan and her bellissima Yarnissima socks, the Dutch Knitters who fed me with woffels (I saved some for my girls, they loved it).

Some pictures will follow soon (camera is off, can´t find the charger somewhere in a box somewhere...). But there is plenty to see on the I Knit flickr pool page here.
